The Top 5 Podcasts for Fashion Entrepreneurs

Lately, we have been obsessed with podcasts. Especially podcasts surrounding the fashion business, marketing, and personal development space.

To be honest, it’s something that in only the last couple of years we even knew existed.

Sure there’s XM radio and things like that, but podcasts that you can download and listen to wherever/whenever was something completely foreign to us five years ago.

Whether you’re sitting on the subway or in your car (stuck in traffic), these bite-sized and easy to consume forms of audio is a game changer for us when it comes to learning and keeping our mindset on point.

As fashion entrepreneurs, there are definitely a few must-listen podcasts to stay in-the-know of what’s going on in the industry in terms of marketing, businesses doing well/not so well, and overall trends.

It’s so important to be knowledgeable about our industry and also stay on top of what’s happening in the world of fashion from not only a consumer perspective but as a business owner.

With that said, we’ve put together a list of the top five fashion specific and related podcasts that we think you’ll absolutely love and devour regularly (like we do).

#1 Fashion is Your Business

This is one of the more popular and well-known fashion podcasts that cover a range of topics. It’s run by three guys (Pavan Bahl, Rob Sanchez, and Marc Raco) and also some revolving hosts.

The FIYB podcast features in-depth interviews with industry leaders and innovators focusing mainly on fashion/technology, or anyone doing anything different or disruptive in fashion.

The great thing about this podcast is that they cover many insightful topics and really try to dive deep with the guests in how they were able to grow such a successful business. They interview both well-known leaders in the industry as well as emerging talent and new businesses.

It’s a great light-hearted and fun conversation surrounding the fashion business and perfect for when you want to listen to something easy to consume yet entertaining.

#2 Spirit of 608

spirit of 608 podcast

This is an absolute favorite of ours. Lorraine Sanders a fashion journalist and PR expert hosts this fun and inspiring show about everything fashion, entrepreneurship, sustainability and tech, which she calls F.E.S.T.

Lorraine features a multitude of guests covering topics ranging from start-up advice to PR and marketing tips, to expert advice and coaching sessions for her Press Dope members.

We love that each episode is usually centered around a different founder and their story.  Lorraine really makes you feel like you’re getting to know that person, their brand, and the behind-the-scenes experience of what they have gone through and are currently going through in terms of growing their business.

We also love that each guest is definitely more relatable in the sense that they aren’t giant names like a Tory Burch or Vera Wang, but (mainly) women (which is awesome) who are in the midst of building their empires.

Lorraine also has such a likable and go with the flow personality which makes the Spirit of 608 an easy and fun listen to while also learning a few tips and strategies.

#3 The Successful Fashion Designer Podcast

the successful fashion designer podcast

Hosted by fashion designer veteran Heidi of Sew Heidi, the Successful Fashion Designer podcast focuses on both the entrepreneurial part of being a successful designer as well as working for someone else’s company as a designer.

She covers topics such as freelancing, how to build a successful brand, and also interviews various guests who provide actionable and valuable advice when it comes to being a successful fashion business owner.

We actually had the opportunity to be guests on the SFD podcast! You can listen here!

Heidi’s interviewing style definitely gets into the nitty gritty of the fashion business and she asks the most intuitive and insightful questions regarding that particular guest’s expertise.

She really understands who her listener is as a designer herself, so this podcast is definitely at the top of our list in terms of providing valuable advice.

#4 The Jane Hamill Podcast

Jane Hamill of Fashion Brain Academy has been teaching designers for years on how to grow a successful fashion business. As a designer and boutique owner long before her teaching days, Jane has first-hand knowledge of what it takes to grow a fashion brand.

On her podcast, she covers a range of topics surrounding the fashion industry from manufacturing, marketing, and general business advice.

Her spunky and fun attitude make you feel more light-hearted around the business and is a refreshing take on growing a small business that you love.

She also gets brutally honest about certain topics such as why she chose to close her own business and why it’s so important to actually make money with your business, which is something designers often struggle with.

She also covers some important mindset topics which are absolutely key in growing your business which many people don’t necessarily talk about on “business” podcasts. This is also why we think this podcast is a must-listen.

#5 Marie Forleo

marie forleo podcast

If you haven’t heard of Marie Forleo as a business owner, you might be living under a rock. Marie TV which is the main platform for this business maven is the queen of running an online business and creating a life your love. That is literally her tagline and business motto.

As an entrepreneur and entertainer, Marie’s bite-sized episodes and in-depth interviews cover business and mindset topics that are pure gold.

We love Marie’s charisma and inspirational personal development advice that really is more important to growing a business than anyone ever really talks about.

Marie’s podcast is super fun, and if you ever watch Marie TV you also know how well-produced and professional these episodes are. (We’re talking graphics, skits, and special effects galore).

She is definitely one of the top players in the podcasting and youtube world.

While her podcast doesn’t focus on fashion specifically, her interviews and mindset advice are absolutely relevant for ALL entrepreneurs whether you’re in fashion or finance.

So our advice to you today is to download and subscribe to a few different podcasts.

We love listening to a few episodes daily, just to keep us on track and stay in the know of everything going on in the industry.

It’s also so important to stay focused, productive, and inspired on the daily.

We hope you enjoy!
